Blogging is Awesome dot Com

Finally a rewarding hobby – spouting off unfounded opinions to whoever doesn’t want to listen. Ah, the joys of the blog.

A comic of Shakespeare sitting at a computer to blog. "To blog or not to blog about that topic? That is the question!"

This little corner of the blog realm has been a cathartic experience. A place to exchange ideas and thoughts with close friends and strangers alike. It has helped me cultivate my web design skills and my ability to put thoughts into words. More importantly, it has shown me that I still have so much more to learn. Often times it is difficult to come up with something clever to write about and that is precisely when you wind up with a pointless meandering, not unlike the drivel you are reading right now. But that is the beauty of the blog.

The best part of course is the engagement with new people; total strangers from anywhere and everywhere. The opportunity to network, branch out, and learn something new is nearly limitless. So is the opportunity to get owned from some faceless (yet heavily pimpled) fifteen year old bandit of the internet. Jack Gamble Man-Overboard (not fifteen although heavily pockmarked), has been doing much of the grassroots networking these days; prowling the depths of StumbleUpon, creating a place for Babeled in Facebook’s blog network, and reaching out to other bloggers.

Active participation in this whole affair as it unfolds is what keeps me coming back for more. Wondering what and who the next post may bring. Even the best of hobbies often end in failure as the initial excitement steadily wanes from an inevitable sense of monotony. Babeling is different, its organic evolution continues to build the excitement over time. Is it strange to find such solace in a community of babelers?

Get (Gr)avatar(ed)

The default gravatar icon with text reading: Get Gravatared! This could be You!Recently at Babeled we have added a new feature that is not so new – Gravatars (globally recognized avatar).  These beauties are the little avatars (images) that you can now see in the comment section of all of the posts on our site.  Since we are a multi-author blog it seemed appropriate for us to add some pictures of ourselves in a hopeless effort of bringing a little more personality to this place.

Of course, we want to encourage everyone else to do the same.  The steps are simple and the service is FREE.  All one must do to obtain the almighty Gravatar is follow this simple incantation:

  1. Traverse the perils of space, time, and the internets to gravatar.com
  2. Select the link to Sign up now! – Do not be fooled as it is cleverly named Sign up now!
  3. Enter in the e-mail address you use when commenting on various blogs or sites supporting Gravatars.
  4. In moments you will receive a confirmation e-mail from Gravatar sent to said address asking you to merrily click the link for activation of your new Gravatar account.
  5. Now simply upload a picture, crop it to your liking, click finish and wait a few minutes for your Gravatar to appear.

Once the blood, sweat, and tears that five minutes of sitting down can bring has passed – you too can look like a tool cool when babeling on our site.

Kidd Chris’ Hot Steamy Blog

The radio departed Kidd Chris has sunk to a new level and descended into the realm of the bloggers with his Hot Steamy Blog.  Earlier this morning I saw a bulletin come through from Kidd Chris’ MySpace page announcing his new venture in blogging.  As a big time fan of his, this was uplifting news as I can still be exposed to Foley’s rants and ravings even though he is off the air.

The site has only been up for a few days, but there have already been several posts.  Kidd Chris is a hard worker who is dedicated to his craft and to his fans.  Considering the new found spare time he has I would expect his blog to be a very active place.  No to mention this will keep us fans in the loop regarding his next career move.

I am a little disappointed though as it does not seem anyone can leave comments yet.  Hopefully this will change over time as it would be nice to have some back and forth interaction with the shock jock himself.

Stifled Creativity

Well I am back from my 17 day voyage to Germany, and my mind and babeled blog fu are gone.  For weeks now I have been battling some severe writers block.  My creativity is shot and the well has completely run dry, yet driving home from work today I promised myself that I would post something this evening.   I thought a nice relaxing vacation in Europe would provide me with both inspiration and solid material for blogging.  Obviously my lack of productivity reveals the fatal flaw in my logic.

So as I sit here writing this nonsense, I am wondering – what are some of the techniques you rely on to keep the blog fires burning?  Does anyone have some good tips for inspiration and dedication to the cause?  This is a cry for help here people, my mind needs to be restored so I can return to the blog glory that I have never achieved.
