@mzmacky,

My first guess would be that your student is using Internet Explorer as a web browser. Even if it is IE8 there are still compatibility issues that need to be dealt with. Internet Explorer uses Active X of the Adobe Flash Player and this is the root of the issue.

Here are some recommended fixes: best case would be to use another browser - Wave works very well with Chrome, FireFox and Safari.

BUT, if switching browsers is not an option follow these steps:

Go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

If you are using Internet Explorer, click on "Different operating system or browser". This link should also work http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/

Select your operating system, and then select "Flash Player 10 for [your OS] - Other Browsers"

I hope this takes care of the problem. :)

One of my students said he couldn't play the youtube video I embedded in wave because "the required plugin is not installed" - but it gave no direction on what plugin he needed or where to get it... any ideas? He said he had no problem playing other videos on his machine. (vista I think).

For YouTube, go with Method 1 and grab the HTML Gadget. Once it loads you will need to select edit code. From here, paste in the YouTube object code to embed your video into the wave.

If you want me to show you, we can do it in Google Wave itself.
