Great, you’re up in running in Google Wave, you’ve got some contacts and you’ve got some cool videos you want to share.
Method 1: Embedding Videos with the HTML Gadget
1. Open up a Wave. It can be a new Wave or one you’re already actively collaborating in.
2. Within the Wave, select Add Gadget by URL – it’s the green puzzle piece icon located at the very top of your text editor.
3. Type in the following address:
http://wave-ide.appspot.com/html.xml
4. Now you are free to embed any video source code you want into your Wave. You would do this the same way you would add a video to a blog post.
Note: Using the HTML Gadget you are free to add whatever HTML you would like to your Waves. This would be especially useful for embedding tables and any other markup you would like.
Method 2: Video Embedding Extension
1. Open a Wave.
2. Add Gadget by URL.
3. Type in the following address (I am using Vimeo for my example):
http://wave.initialblip.com/vimeo/VIDEO_ID (where VIDEO_ID is replaced by the ID of your video).
For my Wave I wanted to embed the Auto Tuning video which has a VIDEO_ID of 3718294, so my link would be:
http://wave.initialblip.com/vimeo/3718294
Note: You can still use Method Number 1 when embedding videos from Vimeo, however Method 2 is a slightly faster option. That said, I have noticed that Method 2 does not always work as advertised. I suspect this is an early issue with the Extension and Google Wave and I’m sure it will get resolved.

What’s the matter with the Hommmmmepaaaaaaaaaaaaaaage?
Dude, it’s probably just the web geek inside of me, but that is one of the best office videos of all time – ALL TIME.
So how does this work for youtube? I’ve tried a couple different ways, and it doesn’t seem to stick…
For YouTube, go with Method 1 and grab the HTML Gadget. Once it loads you will need to select edit code. From here, paste in the YouTube object code to embed your video into the wave.
If you want me to show you, we can do it in Google Wave itself.
I’ll give it a try later. Still waking up.
I just received my google wave invite last week. I can’t wait to get started and embed my first video.
Dynasty Web Drive More Traffic To My Site
One of my students said he couldn’t play the youtube video I embedded in wave because “the required plugin is not installed” – but it gave no direction on what plugin he needed or where to get it… any ideas? He said he had no problem playing other videos on his machine. (vista I think).
@mzmacky,
My first guess would be that your student is using Internet Explorer as a web browser. Even if it is IE8 there are still compatibility issues that need to be dealt with. Internet Explorer uses Active X of the Adobe Flash Player and this is the root of the issue.
Here are some recommended fixes: best case would be to use another browser – Wave works very well with Chrome, FireFox and Safari.
BUT, if switching browsers is not an option follow these steps:
I hope this takes care of the problem.
