A coworker sent these to me today among the myriad of political forwards that circulate within my consortium of conservative colleagues. Many say that another Jimmy Carter can only lead to another Ronald Reagan. This saying is really just a desperate attempt to cope with the fact that we have three and a half more years of “change” to live through.
In the meantime, fellow conservatives. enjoy this compilation of The Ronald’s best word-smithing:
“Here’s my strategy on the Cold War:
We win, they lose.”
“The most terrifying words in the English language are: I’m from the government and I’m here to help.”
“The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.”
“Of the four wars in my lifetime, none came about because the U.S. was too strong.”
“I have wondered at times about what the Ten Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through the U.S. Congress.”
“The taxpayer: That’s someone who works for the federal government but doesn’t have to take the civil service examination.”
“Government is like a baby: An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other.”
“The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a government program.”
“It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first.”
“Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.”
“Politics is not a bad profession. If you succeed, there are many rewards; if you disgrace yourself, you can always write a book.”
“No arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is as formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women.”
“If we ever forget that we’re one nation under GOD, then we will be a nation gone under.”

You forgot one:
“Drugs are bad, mmkay, and because they’re bad I think we should seriously amp up this War on Drugs we’ve been waging since the last Republican president was in office. I think it would be prudent to spend $1.7 billion to stop these drugs dead in their tracks. Even though $1.7 billion is a lot, we have nothing to worry about: Since I’m a conservative nobody will ever accuse me of “throwing money at a problem”, like I’m some kind of liberal spender.”
Two entire hundredths of one percent of what The O-bomb dropped in his first hundred and fifty days in office.
Very true, but the war on drugs was misguided and wrongly applied in many ways.
The War on Drugs was and is a waste of money that Reagan greatly and forcefully contributed to.
Reagan wasn’t a true conservative. The fact that so many conservatives hail him as one of the great conservative presidents only goes to show how great of an actor Reagen really was. Perhaps a posthumous Oscar is called for?
Nevertheless, it does pale in comparison to Obamination of the defect.
Also, in the interest of total fairness, Reagan could have and probably should have cut spending more aggressively in order to remain more congruent with his (very necessary) tax cuts. Further spending reductions would have led to a much larger or more sustained economic expansion to this country and the world.
Guys, I already did all of the research for this little discussion. Apart from Obama, Reagan created the largest accumulated deficit ever seen in American history to the tune of $1.26 trillion dollars (1981-1988 – was missing 1980’s data…). Factor in inflation and Reagan’s deficit pisses on Obama’s. Conservative, indeed. Conservative in reigning in the wealthiest 1% of the country while increasing taxes on the rest of us…did I mention I wrote on trickle down economics, as well? Because if you want to start that one up just take a read through and let me know if you have any real, coherent disagreements based in fact and reality. Thanks.
