Man, now you are really trying to give me some projects to mess up :) You have to take it easy on me, my limited skill set only goes so far.

Also, while I appreciate your sentiment that my fellow bloggers and I are the ones who have to be happy with the site I am going to disagree. You and all our other readers are only going to keep coming back if you find our site useful and intuitive. I'm on here countless hours everyday and know the site inside and out, because of that it is so easy for me to take for granted how usable (or unusable) our readers feel the site is.

So please, keep the feedback coming. It is much appreciated and your perspective is needed. We want to make this place as good as protoslackers can possibly make it.

Funny, I was just thinking yesturday how the comments can cycle through and only show the most recent. Which leads to the possibility of overshadowing and missing some. I still value this as a reader cause I like to check out what people are talking about or what is starting a debate.
Would it be worth it to consider making recent comments an actual link as well that would in turn bring the reader to a page of its own that shows all of the days comments? You can do the same for popular posts. Make a link that will rank all of the blogs, which may spark some competition amoungst the bloggers. Just a thought. Utimately you bloggers are the ones that have to be happy with the layout and functions of the site, in the end we will still read/comment regardless of how it looks.

Hey Cams, Popular Posts have been reintroduced to the sidebar. To your point about recent posts being on the sidebar, you mentioned that this is a perk to return visitors of the site as it negates the need to scroll. This jumped out at me as our stats show us that most of the people that come to the homepage are return visitors. With that in mind do you think recent posts may be more valuable than the 5 most recent comments which cycle through very quickly?

I agree with you. If one of the three were to go, I would say recent posts. You can scroll down and see the most recent posts anyway.

I also agree with your logic for comments and most popular.

Lastly, I think a good topic for the first poll is how many potatoes did Man Overboard find in his first floor toilet tank this morning.

I value all three. As I try to visit the site on a regular basis I like the fact that I can check and see what the hot topic of discussion is with recent comments and jump right in.

With the recent posts option I can quickly see if something new is added. I feel this is only a perk for regulars to the site that do not wish to scroll or are just looking for a particular blogger to post something.

As a business minded person I see the value of having the popular posts where newcomers will likely stick around on the site by checking out the best of what it has to offer.

If I had to choose one to fall by the wayside I guess I would have to go with recent posts just because I value the other two options slightly more.

I was also wondering how you plan to use the reintroduced blogs. Will they be placed randomly on the site? How often will they be reintroduced...1 per week/per day? The only reason I am asking is because I have to scroll through two old posts before I can see the most current. I guess this is where the recent post option comes into value for me again.
I am interested with the polling option and look forward to the new changes to come.

Cams, thanks for the thorough feedback. Some of these changes I am definitely going to get to work on right away.

I have a quick question about the sidebar having recent posts, recent comments, and popular posts. Since we are really trying to crack down on a long sidebar which of those three categories do you feel is the least valuable to a reader? The reason I ask is that our thought process is to keep the area short and clean so that it does not run real long on posts with shorter articles, like it did on the past version of our site. The other reason, is that in the not too distant future we will be adding some other important functions to the right sidebar, one feature being a poll.

I like the new format babels, good job just a few suggestions from a fan. I do miss the "recent posts" and "popular posts" on the sidebar. I think that new readers might be more inclined to check out some of the "popular posts" after stumbling upon a blog that brought them to the site.

I also feel you should give some thought about adding a link to the page that would enable readers to share or send friend that particular blog. I often tell my friends to check out this blog but if I don't send them a link they are often too lazy and forgetful to take a look on their own.

It's a good idea that you reintroduce older blogs and really like how they are boxed in with the grey backgound. It really makes them pop and appealing to the eye, I would also give some consideration to having the others posts stand out this way. All in all I still enjoy visiting keep up the good work.
