Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a member of a gang from Coney Island trapped in the Bronx and forced to fight your way home through the territory of a hundred gangs each with their own cheesy theme?
If you answered yes, then have I got the movie for you!
Set in 1979 New York, the movie follows 9 ‘delegates’ from the Warriors on their way to a big meeting in the Bronx. Cyrus, the leader of the biggest gang in the city, has a vision. With their combined forces, this ragtag group of petty gangs could amass an army of 60,000 soldiers! “Aint but 20,000 police in the whole town…”
“Caaaaan youuuuu dig iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit?”
One gang could rule this city, if only they could preserve the truce. This would prove to be too much to ask as Cyrus is quickly shot dead amidst the applause and shouts of encouragement.
Now every gang in the city thinks the Warriors shot Cyrus and a mark has been placed on their heads. Who better than Cheif from Carmen San Diego to go on the radio and announce to every ‘bopper’ in the Big Apple that the Warriors are as good as dead?
The Warriors are now behind enemy lines and a long way from home. The Cops, the Turnbull ACs, The Baseball Furies, The Lizzies, and even the low class Orphans are all hot on their trail. With their leader dead it is up to Swanny and the brunette from Too Close for Comfort to lead them back to familiar territory. The dirty beaches of Coney never seemed so far away.
Without a doubt this movie ranks among my favorites of all time. A lack of nudity is overlooked due to the equal opportunity beat-down of a gang of lesbians. Highest marks all around!
Final Score: BBBBB
Five out of Five B’s
It seems a remake is in the works. Now we all know what the authority on cinema, The Movie Whore, thinks about remakes. However, I’d be lying if I told you I wasn’t looking forward to the mother of all cheesy remakes in 2010.
In the meantime, the Video game, released in 2006, should give you your fill. As fellow Babeler Keeks will tell you, the game is a riot and expands nicely on the original movie. It even takes you back a few years before the movie and details the origins of the gang and it’s members. This adds a nice touch of character development that the movie lacked.

Nice pick Jack. I remember watching this late at night while spending the night at a friends house when I was kid. It is a solid flick for its time and one has earned its place under the title “Classic Films”
A sensational movie and damn good video game as well. I was waiting for this B movie to be brought up.
This definitely seems worth checking out. It has good bad movie written all over it.
