Pakistan Accepts Rule of Islamic Law

State Sanctioned Abuse of Women

In the latest round of global efforts to appease Radical Islam, Pakistan announced that it will expand the rule of Sharia, or Islamic Law, in a region known as the Swat Valley.

For those of you unfamiliar with Sharia, here are just a couple of the highlights of this barbaric practice of stifling human rights and abusing women all in the name of Allah:

  • Men are forbidden from shaving
  • Girls are forbidden from going to school
  • Girls are forbidden from playing with dolls
  • A man may beat his wife
  • Homosexuals must be executed
  • Adulterers must be stoned to death
  • Premarital sex is punishable by whipping
  • Critics of the Qur’an, Muhammad, and Sharia must be executed
  • Jihad is required by law

The deal was made with Taliban militants, refugees from the war in Afghanistan who have taken shelter in the tribal regions of Pakistan.  In recent months, these extremists have begun a vicious campaign of publicly beheading civilians who oppose them and launching attacks at the Pakistani Army.

12,000 Pakistani troops have been repeatedly beaten back by the fundamentalist fighters and many see this deal as an attempt by an already weak Pakistani government to save face in the wake of an embarrassing defeat.

Unfortunately for us, the Taliban will undoubtedly use this region as a training ground for the next generation of global terrorists and use their newfound refuge as a staging area for attacks on American troops in Afghanistan.

This news comes only a week after Pakistan released A.Q. Kahn, the single biggest proliferator of nuclear weapons since the cold war and father of “The Islamic Bomb.”

With the war in Iraq drawing down, Afghanistan and Pakistan have become the central front in the global war between Democracy and Radical Islam.

One must ask oneself, who’s side is Pakistan on?

    That photo is most impressive.

And this report is terrible news.

I love your blog, and I hate to be a stickler, but the Shariah that was imposed in Pakistan was pretty liberal (by Islamic standards). Many of the harsher Arab tenants (such as forbidding girls from attending schools) haven’t been included there. Pakistan tried fighting and tried quitely co-existing, but failed at both. Maybe stealing the taliban’s thunder will work; heaven knows nothing else has.

T.H., we fully encourage sticklers here; it is one of the core tenets of babeledom.

You’re right of course TH. Although I don’t think words like “mild” should be applied when describing the trampling of human rights.
