I AM A REPUBLICAN, A CONSERVATIVE, A NEOCON, AND I…
Posted by Jack Gamble - Man Overboard under Babeled, Politics, Society
- Pay my medical bills in full every time (that which is not covered by my insurance which I pay extra for)
- Generate clean, safe, reliable, CARBON FREE, energy for a living
- Vote
- Recycle paper, plastic bottles, tin cans, plastic bags, organic waste (in my dare I say wicked tomato garden), glass bottles, and lousy jokes.
- Donated more than 2% of my income to recognized charities last year and am on pace to pass that this year.
- Donated even more to unrecognized charities and that’s about all I’m going to say about that.
- Pay my taxes
- Only heat my house to 60 degrees in the winter, do not turn on my AC until it hits 90 degrees in the summer, and made energy saving modifications to my house in order to reduce my energy foot print (and save on my bills of course).
- Proudly display the American Flag
- Was named Clean Communities Person of the Year for the State of New Jersey at the age of 8.
- Worked 3 years in the deadliest, most physically exhausting profession on the planet to finance my education.
- Sacrifice my own standard of living which is by all accounts modest in order to ensure that upon retirement I will not be dependent on the generosity of others for survival.
- Was eligible to collect unemployment benefits at more than one point in my life but refused on principle despite the circumstances.
So if that makes me a Neocon - guilty. The way I look at it, we Neocons, as liberals call us as if we might be insulted by such a label, are people of values, determination, and most of all we are people of action who do more than talk about how to make the world a better place - we get off our asses and do it.

A conservative will demolish a forest to get the oil out from underneith. A liberal will not allow the forest to be demolished. A neocon will use technology to extract the oil out from underneith the forest while not touching the forest.
You forgot to mention that we neocons root for the home team Jack. And that means supporting the coach too, not just the players.
If anyone needs to im me, my screen name is: neorightwing

Well said Jackie. But I missed the coming of age section of this list where neocons are in indoctrinated into the fold by eating cold cans of beans?
June 21st, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Sorry if this is way off topic…but the new Bush’s Grilling Beans are to die for….im sure they are just as good cold as they are hot and there are 4 different flavors I think and they are all meant to compliment the taste of grilled steak, chicken, ribs, and pork chops.
* I do not work for, nor am I an authorized spokesperson or officer of Bush’s Grilling Beans engaging in a promotional announcement. My statement is simply of personal opinion in compliance with WordPress rules and regulations.

Roll that beautiful bean footage.
June 21st, 2008 at 3:16 pm
We all know about Jack’s hatred of beans…

Jon,
Does this mean you loved Clinton?
I don’t buy you have to love the coach part. You didn’t like Kotite and didn’t like Handley but we are still loyal fans of our respective football teams (I think mine won
the Super Bowl last year but I’ll have to check;)).
When one questions something such as religion or there country their faith in it grows. It’s part of being a true patriot and not someone who is being lead around by their nose. This is not to say that you or the author of this post are. I can admit that the two of you watch more news then I and are more up to date about politics.
However, my problem with the conservative philosophy is they believe that they made it and if you can’t then you are doing something wrong. It isn’t that black and white. When one member of the society is helped the whole society grows stronger. That is why when we “bale someone out” it only makes this country even better.

It is the fact that we can openly argue different ideologies (Republican, Democratic, Libertarian) that is what makes this country great. I see flaws in both the liberal and conservative philosophies as they do treat everything as black and white. But if they didn’t then what could they argue about? They need their differences and our country was founded on that same idea hoping that the black and white differences would merge into gray in an open forum. Ha, what a thought!

Jack,
Not all of the things you listed are unique to conservatives, nor are they requirements of being a conservative. Sure, you financed your own education. But a lot of “neocons” or whatever you warped, biased people who lack grounding in reality and logic call yourselves, are rich kids whose sense of entitlement is matched in size only by their ego - which is not generated from personal achievement.
Also, you are an anomaly, Jack. Most people (conservative or liberal) do not have as frugal of a lifestyle, nor are as thoughtful and respectful of all things, environment included, as I know you personally are.
June 22nd, 2008 at 9:23 pm
The fact that we can openly argue such different ideologies is one of the most beautiful things about America. Know where else people can do that now? Baghdad
Keeks, i never loved Clinton, however, if he took us to war, I wouldn’t voice my opinion loud enough for the enemy to hear. Thats just flat out supporting the death of troops.
Call me a closed-minded neocon rich kid with a total lack of logic or whatever you liberals paint us as. As long as you get to point the finger at anyone but yourself, you get to have “your” entitlement and “your” ego.
June 22nd, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Number one, I am not a liberal. Number 2, it is not through the immaculate conception of conservatives that this land is kept free, contrary to neocon biblical belief. It is through the combined efforts of several points of view, some extinct and some still alive, that have kept this a free country. Number 3, pointing the finger is what both liberals and conservatives are good at. Both groups do it equally, so point invalid. My ego stems from my complete and utter intellectual superiority, duh.
June 23rd, 2008 at 11:13 am
Id rather point the finger at the enemy instead of each other. Why can’t we all do that?
A great vocabulary combined with an excellent financial and economical analysis skill-set does not necessarily represent intellectual superiority. It does, however, demonstrate superior regurgitation ability.

Well I think we can all agree that Islamic extremists or any extremist who uses terror are evil and they have forfeited their right to live. The debate is how we will deal with said enemy.
June 23rd, 2008 at 11:35 am
Keeks, we can all agree on that. But why waste our tax dollars on peying for their attorney along with the security needed to protect his life until the sentancing? Saves everyone a lot of money if they are killed instead of captured on the spot.
June 25th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Jon I wouldn’t shed a single tear if he was shot on sight and I understand that there will be considerable costs in taking him to trial. However, if we want to be able to claim that we are a free and just society then it is in my belief that we need to extend a free trial to all.
June 25th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
So if we shoot him on sight, we cannot claim we are a free and just society?
June 26th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Apples and oranges. If he ends up dying in a gun fight then that is a casualty of war. If he is taken prisoner and we do whatever we want to him simply because we can and he’s evil that is unjust. We are not doing for him we are doing it for our way of life. We are not stooping to his level. It’s like not chasing down the jerk off who cut you off and beating him up. He probably deserves it but your better then that.
June 26th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Well at least we understand our fundamental disagreement. Im still would snap Bin Ladin’s neck if I ever saw him…even if he is hiding in a church under a bench screaming uncle or mammy! The reward for him still says “dead or alive.”
June 26th, 2008 at 4:49 pm
Fair enough Jon. Perhaps I have a bleeding heart.
June 26th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Hey keeks, you know what they say…
“If you are young and not liberal, you don’t have a heart. If you are older and not conservative, you don’t have a brain.”
June 26th, 2008 at 5:50 pm
Ha ha or a liberal is a conservative who hasn’t been mugged.
June 26th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
Or they both have it wrong. Any viewpoint that is too far either way doesn’t fit a country of 300 million people. Those people are bound to have views that average out around the middle - so that is probably where you want the leader of the country to stand in order to best represent his/her people.

Jay
I have always said we need more parties. That’s why I voted for Nader in 2000. Italy has the highest voting turn out at like 90% +. This is due to the numerous choices they have. As opposed to us which is sad.
June 26th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
I don’t want a leader that sits on the fence. I want a leader that has their feet firmly planted on the ground in their decisions, not firmly planted in the air.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
I wholeheartedly agree Keeks, we as a country need to get away from the 2 party system. George Washington had enough wisdom to know that our newly established country would be better without a bipartisan system. There are always better people out there for a job and we as the voters never really get a chance to see a 3rd party candidate really have a chance for it just turns into a vote for the “other guy”.

“I am a moderate and I think that other authors on this site are INTELLIGENT enough to not back themselves into a corner of Republican or Democrat.” … very interesting quote.
June 27th, 2008 at 10:53 am
Good list Jack. I do all of those things too, but I don’t think that has to do with you being a NeoCon, Rep, or Conservative….I just think doing those things makes you a good man and a good American.
June 30th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
My ultimate point being - despite my political stance - I do more to help the less fortunate, conserve energy, and protect the environment than most liberals. This is Ironic as they claim to be the champions of such causes yet when it comes time to act - they are no where to be found.
