Unfortunately, way to often when people hear the word Israel, they instantly associate it with death, destruction, religious wars, politics, etc. Although these associations are justified by history, I would just like to bring to everyone’s attention one of the many highlights from my trip to Israel. To begin, I want to state that I am not a religious man and it is not my intent to be perceived as such, however 2 years ago I went on an adventure with just my grandfather and I discovered that Israel is more than desert and death.

While over there I saw and did many things, such as climb Masada and swim in the Dead Sea, but the most beautiful thing I saw over there (besides the Israeli women) was a tiny oasis, called Ein Gedi. Having its roots in biblical times, Ein Gedi is nestled in the desert near the Dead Sea and Masada. It has a flowing waterfall and multiple springs that are used for the purpose of agriculture inside this oasis. It is full of life, quite the opposite of what you would think to find next to the saltiest deepest place in the world. There are numerous animals and birds that live comfortably in this reserve and there is even a botanical garden. In 1972, Ein Gedi was established as a National Park and has since then maintained its beautiful appearance.

I would also like to make honorable mention of quite possibly the coolest looking animal I have ever seen firsthand while in this paradise. The Ibex, also known as a mountain goat, has a home in Ein Gedi, as well as other places. They have curved devil horns and the horns get exceptionally longer over time. They are also extremely nimble, having the ability to climb up rock faces and climb trees. They are not afraid of humans and they parade around as though they are some wise, mythical creature.
