Stifled Creativity

Well I am back from my 17 day voyage to Germany, and my mind and babeled blog fu are gone.  For weeks now I have been battling some severe writers block.  My creativity is shot and the well has completely run dry, yet driving home from work today I promised myself that I would post something this evening.   I thought a nice relaxing vacation in Europe would provide me with both inspiration and solid material for blogging.  Obviously my lack of productivity reveals the fatal flaw in my logic.

So as I sit here writing this nonsense, I am wondering – what are some of the techniques you rely on to keep the blog fires burning?  Does anyone have some good tips for inspiration and dedication to the cause?  This is a cry for help here people, my mind needs to be restored so I can return to the blog glory that I have never achieved.

    To get the creative juices flowing, I do the following:
    1) Open up old textbooks I enjoyed and look for insightful points
    2) Look through the archives of blogs I like to read and look for an interesting idea. I then analyze an aspect of the idea the author never considered.
    3) I keep a running list of possible topics. Possible items on your list could include:

    * John Adams
    * George Washington
    * HDR
    * Yankees
    * Real Baseball Predictions
    * Why baseball is the most baseballiest sport since Ye Olde Baseballe.

    I also find it helpful to do a regular feature… for me, CS quotes with commentary. I can get some (I hope) entertaining blog posts without having to think too hard. I just have to find other people who said something well. Which is possible.

    For me it comes down to getting ideas from what goes on around me. I have gotten 4 or 5 articles I have started for the stuff I do on http://www.rustylime.com. The my regular site I just get hit with stuff. Something will just hit me or I examine the little crazy thoughts that run through my brain. Don’t force it just mill around and surf for a while. Hit the stumble button a few times.

    I think I hit the stumble button too many times. My addiction to StumbleUpon is becoming alarming.
