Mayor Bloomberg Should Run For President in 2008
Posted by Gregory Rineberg under Babeled, Current Events, Politics
For far too long, this great country has been under the assumption that only a Democrat or Republican can win a Presidential Election. Well I know that’s false, but most people settle on the “what can I do about it attitude”. One of the greatest Presidents that this country ever had was Theodore Roosevelt, and he was neither a Democrat nor a Republican, he was a Populist. There would be nothing more refreshing in this divided country of ours than to see the flaw in bipartisan politics revealed. People should focus less on the party that the candidate is running under and more on the issues at hand. Therein lies the inherent problem with our country.
The United States needs a leader and a visionary, not just another politician. Unfortunately, attorneys make up the majority of politicians. They are motivated by monetary gain, as well as fame, and for the most part lack the vision to take this country in the right direction. These politicians are great for finding loopholes and getting what they want, but the Presidency is about doing what is right and doing it in the best interest for an entire country.
As I look at the 2008 Presidential Election, I find myself seemingly unhappy with what the Democratic and Republican Parties have to offer. Actually, for the last eight years, I have found myself trying to wade through the constant political smog and choose the lesser of two evils for President. Although this has been a common motif in current elections and politics, this should not be the case.
As a top-notch Mayor of New York City and a self-made multi-billionaire, Mayor Bloomberg would be a great Presidential candidate for the U.S. in this upcoming election. He hasn’t been in politics for long, but that only reveals that he has had less time to get corrupted. As a man that doesn’t need handouts or ‘favors’, he doesn’t sway on his political issues just to gain support. Because he is worth $5.3 billion, Bloomberg could easily finance his own campaign without worrying about pleasing or upsetting lobbyists. He wasn’t given this money, nor was it handed down to him through inheritance. He made it the ‘hardworking American way’.
In a day and age where the power of a country lies with its economy, I think it would be better to get a former CEO of a multi-billion dollar company to lead this country into favorable years than to elect just another ‘run of the mill’ politician. After all, he is used to steering an organization towards providence and he has the resume to back it up.
As the Mayor of New York City, Mr. Bloomberg has done great things. Bloomberg has managed to decrease crime rates, and has also managed to take the $5 billion deficit and turn it into a $4 billion surplus. On top of all this, he improved the unemployment rate, as well as improving the education system. It is of no surprise to me that Michael Bloomberg is doing so well in office and has great numbers to prove it; he is after all a former CEO that knows how to get results, not just talk about them.
Over the last year or so, right around the time when Bloomberg cut off ties with the Republican Party, there have been rumors that he would make a run for office in 2008. For the longest time, and even still to this day, he claims he has no interest in running for President. However, on February 4th, Doug Schoen, a member of Bloomberg’s inner circle, gave hints to the Associated Press that Bloomberg may still run.
The country needs a change, and it might as well start with neither a Democrat nor a Republican, but an Independent. When this happens, we, the U.S., can refocus our energy on improving our economy, infrastructure, and international relations.

George Bush is a former CEO…

Good point. I should have said a successful CEO.

He seems pretty adamant about not running for office this year. I heard some guy in Manhattan spent a couple grand for a billboard to convince the mayor to vote.
As with anyone with a self-made success story, the secret to his success has been following through with projects he begins. As much as I’d want him to be president, he needs to focus on finishing up his mayoral term - and thats been his primary reason for not running.
But if he ran in 2012, I’d be interested.

This is an interesting article about Bloomberg’s secret presidential aspirations.
And here’s a good one showing how much NYC residents think he’d be a great president.

Good articles Andrew. Way to go the extra mile and bring us some legacy news.

I would vote for Bloomberg.

I agree that the two party system is broke. I also like that he won’t need to fund raise. I have to sit down and look at his policies though.

I for one think the Greatest Keek Show on Earth is most fit to lead!

At least I have an Economic Stimulus plan, whether people agree with it or not, and have a great view on foreign policy: nuke our enemies, duh. It’s the cheapest and easiest - The true American Way (kind of like outsourcing).

Greg,
I appreciate your support. Look for me in 2012.

What do you think about Bloomberg trying to overturn the law so he can run for a third term as Mayor of NYC? I think they should allow him.
October 2nd, 2008 at 5:00 pm
I didn’t know about that, but I think they should allow him. He has done a great job thus far and why chance it letting him leave, especially if he wants to stay.
October 2nd, 2008 at 5:29 pm
The City could use his financial expertise. Plus he has done a great job so far.

The man has to give himself a yearly salary, so he gives himself 1 penny. that’s kinda awesome!
October 2nd, 2008 at 6:28 pm
I think they should change his title to King of NYC and give him the crown until he dies. JK
In all seriousness though, Bush should get a third term too!

In all seriousness??!?!?!?!?!?! May God have mercy on your soul. Many Republicans have seen the wisdom in distancing themselves from Dubbya. Now his father, on the other hand, I liked that guy. CIA director and war hero = the type of president I want.
October 2nd, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Yeah senior was awesome. He would have had a second term if he didn’t raise taxes after saying, “read my lips, no new taxes.” haha
Republicans have distanced themselves from Dubbya because they want to get elected and right now it is extremely unpopular and not cool to like him (a pop trend set by Hollywood, most American Universities, the elite left media, and liberals who are so open-minded their brains drag on the floor when they walk…A brain-washing effect well done I might add). In all reality, are the Republicans who distanced themselves from W running on that different of a platform?… (lower taxes for rich, nay to abortion and gay marrage, yay to death penalty and war, small govt.(except NCLB), and America..Eff Yeah!)
If you are going to give a NYC mayor a third term, why not give the President one?
October 2nd, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Because the only place George W. Bush should spend the next four years is in Guantanamo Bay.
October 2nd, 2008 at 8:48 pm
When W. won in 2004 against Kerry, there were college students crying on the street all over America (confirmed by Mr. Molyneux himself when he worked at Starbucks). I gaurantee you wont see that by the Republicans if Obama wins. Paints a nice picture of strong vs. weak, doesn’t it?
October 2nd, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Not really. I’d kick W’s, Obama’s, McCain’s, and Biden’s asses if they were man enough to face me in the OCTAGON!!! Then, I would run from Palin who undoubtedly would have me in the cross hairs of her rifle scope.

Bloomberg has been approved to run for a third term next November, 2009.
I think he’ll run for president in 2016, cause there’s no way he’ll get approved for a fourth term when this next one’s up.
