Will the Green Bay Packers Please Win the Super Bowl?

It is my sincere hope that the Green Bay Packers win Super Bowl XLII for the following reasons:

  1. Brett Favre will retire
  2. I am enjoying the Cowboys’ twelve year Super Bowl drought and have no desire to see it end
  3. Tom Brady – are you kidding me? This guy has enough Super Bowl rings and an ex-Victoria’s Secret model girlfriend, enough said
  4. The Colts won last year and Peyton’s forehead is already huge, no need to make it bigger with another Super Bowl win
  5. If the Patriots win the collective sports ego of the Boston area will generate a gravitational field so massive it will draw in asteroids that smite the Earth

My first wish is for my New York Giants to win it all. However, if and when they are eliminated my support will go to Mr. Favre and his Packers.

I hope the Giants win it all as well. But if any team is destined to win it, I sure hope its the Packers. Favre has been a champion for a long time and it would be great to see him win 1 more before he retires. Do you think Favre is in the top 5 quarterbacks of all time?

Despite his all-time passer records, I do not think Brett Favre cracks the top 5. Although another Super Bowl on his resume will help make that case. Either way he is a legend – just a legend overshadowed by the likes of Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.

Brett Favre is doubtful to retire after such a great year with a young team. There only going to get better.

And also the jaguars will win it all. They have best 2 runners at the time, MOJO and fred t., the have excellent run D, and garrard will only get better. and if u wanna say pass d is weak, well there arent any hot rushers rite now so they can focus entirely on the pass like they did against the steelers, and get some turnovers.

Overall, the jagsare only getting better and have no major weaknesses to exploit.

Man, that is a bold statement right there. The Jagwires are a very good football team – no doubt. Their rushing attack is fierce and their ability to play in cold weather commendable.

But I do not think a better team has ever played in the NFL than this year’s Patriots. I grew up during the 49er dynasty, but what the Pats have done in the era of parity is remarkable.

Great points, Aaron. I am just WISHING that Favre will retire, not predicting. That fossil needs to take it easy or else he is going to be the Randy Johnson/Roger Clemens of football – too old and proud to give up the game to the younger guys who are being overshadowed by the legends of old.

As Marcellus Wallace says in Pulp Fiction, “…think you ass is gonna age like wine; well, if you mean it turns to vinegar, then it do; if you mean it gets better with age, then it don’t.”

The reason I doubt the patriots is because they have shown their quite beatable and have a weak rush d. Although tom brady is the clutchest nfl quarterback of all time he wont get enough help from maroney.

Greg, yes it is bold. But when actually thought over the only waqy the pats will blow them out is if some1 is injured or just confused and not focused.

Additionaly, I can see the pats getting blown out if they come in thinking this isnt even a real game.

Finally, you cant give me a valid reason where the jags will get beat, so its pretty simple.

  9. Posted January 11, 2008 at 4:29 pm | Permalink

Actually, I think that Maroney is up to the task of making the Jags think twice about playing the whole game in a nickel or dime pass defense. He can come out with big gains or even solid, consistent, modest gains which can get first downs and keep the clock running while tiring out the Jags D. Once they are tired, Brady will systematically pick the secondary apart until their will is broken.

The Jags have accomplished more than I thought they would this season and kudos to them, but defeating the Patriots is unlikely, at best.

You want a valid reason: Bill Belichick

It starts and stops with by far the best coach in the NFL. You raise a great point about the Patriots looking past a lesser adversary. But with Coach B. that simply will not happen. He is a master motivator and the best game planner since Bill Walsh. He will have his boys more than ready to play.

Throw in the fact that he has had two weeks to motivate and prepare his men, he single-handedly makes all the difference. Jack Del Rio is a quality football coach, but he does against a legend. Also, the Brady Factor cannot be discounted. Plays under pressure, always comes up big, and serves as another coach on the field.

Sure anything is possible, but the Pats are disgustingly good – like 1998 Yankees good.

Brett Favre sure looked good today. Now my GMEN must win tomorrow!

  12. Posted January 13, 2008 at 6:57 pm | Permalink

Maroney with 122 yards and a TD – sure looks like the Jags only defended the passing game. Oh, but wait, Brady still had 3 TDs…

So much for the Jags & the Colts. This is going to come down to the Packers and Patriots, just like I said.

  13. Posted January 13, 2008 at 9:01 pm | Permalink

I don’t know about the Packers and Patriots. The G-Men are playing inspired ball right now.

The ‘Lesser Manning’ is playing great ball right now, I just hope he can keep it going.

  14. Posted January 13, 2008 at 9:46 pm | Permalink

Manning the Lesser is undoubtedly playing great football right now; however, their decimated secondary would give me heartburn if I were a Giant fan. But the secondary did play a great game against the Cowgirls despite all the injuries.

Tough call, don’t really know what to say. While the Giants seem to have a talent for winning games when they have to this year, the Packers seem to be a team of destiny much like the Patriots. This is a really exciting post season, glad to have been watching it. Good luck Giants – while I can not “officially” sponsor a Giant victory as I am an Eagle fan, since my guys are out of it I would like to see the NJ Giants bring a Super Bowl victory back to my home state.

One thing we can all agree on is watching that annoying smirk getting wiped off Tony Romo’s face.

Watching the Cowboys is interesting, because it is a great insight into why people hate the Yankees.

I hate the Cowboys so much it probably shouldn’t be legal.

Great season Brett, you are one of the best. But let’s go GMEN!!!

  18. Posted January 21, 2008 at 8:33 am | Permalink

Excellent NFC championship game. Looks like the injury-laden secondary of the Giants was able to pull through yet again, picking off Favre multiple times.

Well, I still hope Brett retires. Hey, he had a great season. Go out on top.

Well, it looks like the mighty Brett Favre is calling it quits after all.
